- Have strong research skills and the ability to locate appropriate online and direct-outreach sources.
- Record information in an organized, concise manner to answer detailed questions.
- Show resourcefulness and curiosity when information falls outside existing processes, and communicate findings that can improve team understanding.
- Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and the ability to understand complex processes and consistently follow instructions.
- Accurately and concisely summarize complex concepts, difficult text, and detailed structures.
- Use critical thinking to understand varied source structures and apply general categories and logical statements.
- Collaborate with a team by communicating progress, sharing discoveries, and coordinating research.
- Use Google Chrome, Docs, and Sheets, or similar tools, to find, record, organize, and clean up information gathered from the Internet.
- Have an interest in or experience using AI tools to increase productivity.
- Have a computer with Internet access.
Responsibilities
- Research reliable election information sources and conduct outreach to gather official documents for local contests.
- Process and ingest election and candidate data into Ballotpedia’s database using automated tools and manual review.
- Monitor changes to election schedules and documentation for upcoming local elections.
- Maintain and improve databases of sources and research processes.
- Review data for accuracy and completeness, and make corrections based on Ballotpedia’s standards and current information.
- Build knowledge of state and local election practices across assigned jurisdictions to interpret election materials accurately.
- Research election laws and other relevant electoral topics as needed.
- Identify and implement workflows that improve the depth and quality of local election coverage.
