About Turtle Rock Studios
Turtle Rock Studios pioneers innovative cooperative gaming experiences, bringing players together to confront thrilling challenges. With a legacy that includes the original Left 4 Dead, Evolve, and Back 4 Blood, you'll be joining a team that consistently pushes the boundaries of multiplayer action. Since its founding in 2002, the studio has been dedicated to designing games that encourage and support cooperative gameplay. Our titles have garnered critical acclaim and a passionate player base, establishing us as a leader in the cooperative shooter genre. We operate as an active game development studio, with a team of 101-250 employees located in Lake Forest, California. In 2021, Turtle Rock Studios was acquired by Tencent, yet we maintain independent operations, allowing us the autonomy to craft the ambitious games we envision.
How We Work
At Turtle Rock Studios, you'll find a collaborative and empowering environment where your creative input is valued. We believe in autonomy, giving our team members agency to shape our games. All ideas are welcome and openly discussed, ensuring every voice is heard before moving forward. You'll contribute to a unified team, working across diverse departments to achieve shared goals. We emphasize frequent studio-wide playtests, maintaining a daily cadence to ensure we ship games we're proud of. We support flexible work arrangements, offering in-studio, hybrid, and fully remote options across North America.
Engineering at Turtle Rock Studios
Engineers at Turtle Rock Studios tackle complex challenges at the intersection of IT and game development, building robust and scalable systems that directly impact our development pipelines and workflows. You will design, build, and maintain software that elevates our highly distributed corporate network. We optimize both whitebox and commercial hardware solutions through novel applications of proprietary, open-source, and commercial software. Our team also works to support the online infrastructure for large-scale multiplayer games, including developing and maintaining backend services and APIs, as well as tools that support our online game infrastructure. We leverage technologies like Person Schema, CrUX Top 50m, COVID-19, Apple Whitelist, and Discord to enhance our games and operational efficiency. We encourage experimentation and pushing boundaries, as seen in our work with Unreal Engine Blueprints to empower designers in the coding process, and our focus on optimizing performance for VR platforms.
