Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (e.g., CPC, COC, RHIT, CCS) without apprentice designation.
• Minimum of 2 years of outpatient surgical coding experience.
• At least 2 years of coding experience specific to Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC).
• Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Flexibility to take on new tasks or assignments as necessary.
• Strong attention to detail and speed while adhering to tight deadlines.
• Exceptional ability to follow oral and written instructions with professionalism.
• Excellent organizational skills and outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities:

• Review operative reports to abstract information and apply CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes.
• Provide coding for all Level 2 and some Level 3 procedures as well as Level 1 when needed.
• Perform coding for professional fee surgical encounters.
• Verify Local Coverage Determination (LCD) and National Coverage Determination (NCD) information as required.
• Utilize NCCI edits and coding resources as needed.
• Initiate physician queries and escalate coding/documentation problems when appropriate.
• Engage in ongoing coding education and perform related duties as assigned.
