Requirements:

• Requires a level of education equivalent to RHIT or certified coder, with advanced education in medical terminology and anatomy.
• Must complete required coursework, including ATS trauma registrar and AIS training within one year of hire.
• Two or more years of experience in coding or clinical data management are required.
• Ability to abstract data from medical records and understand coding procedures.
• Must have strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Exceptional data entry and management skills with a high degree of accuracy.

Responsibilities:

• Collects required information for trauma victims from medical records and other sources.
• Codes injuries and procedures for clinical care, research, and accreditation compliance.
• Maintains the Trauma Registry database and contributes to clinical research and benchmarking.
• Develops timely reports and submits data to maintain accreditation statuses.
• Identifies opportunities for improvement within the trauma quality and performance improvement program.
• Works independently and provides excellent service to internal and external customers.
