Requirements:
  • Bachelor's and Master's degree in ecology, environmental science, biology, or a related field.
  • CIEEM Full Membership.
  • FISC Level 4 or equivalent botanical skills.
  • Proven experience as an ecologist, including project management responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of ecological principles, biodiversity conservation, and environmental impact assessment methodologies.
  • Proficiency in ecological fieldwork and data analysis using Biodiversity Metric, statistical software, GIS, and other relevant tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel across the UK.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage Habitat Bank projects from initiation to creation, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and objectives.
  • Undertake ecological survey work including site walkovers, UK Habitat Classification, and habitat condition assessments.
  • Analyze ecological data and prepare Biodiversity Net Gain assessments utilizing the Biodiversity Metric.
  • Lead habitat design and creation of Habitat Management Plans and associated strategies.
  • Build relationships with landowners and stakeholders throughout the Habitat Bank process.
  • Support Habitat creation and management teams, including sub-contractor management.
  • Organize monitoring surveys for offset sites and habitat banks.
  • Prepare reports including Biodiversity Appraisals and in-house research projects.
  • Stay updated on research and emerging issues in ecology, particularly Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • Mentor junior ecologists and foster professional development.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including conservation groups and academic institutions.
  • Contribute to business development by identifying project opportunities and preparing proposals.
