Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, COC, RHIT, CCS, etc.) without an apprentice designation.
• Minimum 2 years of outpatient surgical coding experience.
• Minimum 2 years of Ambulatory Surgical Center coding experience.
• Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to take on new tasks or assignments as needed.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work within deadlines.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities:

• Review operative reports to abstract information and apply appropriate codes.
• Provide coding for Level 2 and Level 3 procedures as required.
• Perform coding for professional fee surgical encounters.
• Verify Local Coverage Determination (LCD) and National Coverage Determination (NCD) information.
• Utilize coding resources like NCCI edits and AMA CPT Assistant.
• Initiate physician queries when necessary and escalate problems appropriately.
• Participate in ongoing coding education.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.
