Requirements:
  • Staff Attorney I-II: Minimum one (1) year of federal court civil litigation or comparable experience post-law school.
  • Senior Staff Attorney I-IV: Minimum six (6) years of federal court civil litigation or comparable experience post-law school.
  • Membership in good standing of at least one state bar in the U.S., preferably Georgia, Mississippi, or Florida.
  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the implementation of SPLC’s criminal legal system reform advocacy strategies, particularly in the Deep South.
  • Develop new cases in collaboration with SPLC staff and community partners.
  • Train and mentor legal staff as needed for Senior Staff Attorneys.
  • Investigate and gather information through client and witness interviews.
  • Collaborate with members of other Advocacy and Litigation Impact Teams (ALITs) and SPLC Departments.
  • Write legal memos and briefs.
  • Represent SPLC in public forums and respond to legal assistance requests.
