Requirements:

• 3+ years reporting experience.
• Deep understanding of issues facing Black students in America.
• Creativity and ability to generate thematic story ideas.
• Strong ethics and sourcing understanding.
• Ability to thrive in a startup environment.
• Good time management and organization skills.
• Capability to break down data and communicate educational concepts simply.
• Familiarity with digital tools and social media platforms.

Responsibilities:

• Publish at least four stories a month with creative story formats.
• Deliver human-centered stories.
• Monitor key databases and changes in federal regulations.
• Collaborate with the national politics reporter on diversity, equity, and inclusion issues.
• Track funding for HBCUs and its impact on affected students.
• Stay informed on K-12 education trends and connect them to the audience.
• Promote content with the audience team to maximize engagement.
• Participate in media appearances and events.
