Requirements:
  • University degree in marine sciences, fisheries science or fisheries/marine management.
  • At least 5 years of experience in government, academia or non-governmental organisations in the field of marine biodiversity, conservation and sustainable use.
  • Expert level knowledge of human (e.g., vessel tracking data) and environmental data types used to designate and monitor marine managed areas.
  • Working knowledge of English and one either Spanish or French.
Responsibilities:
  • Leading role in writing and revising existing training material to create a globally standardised training package that can be adapted and updated for regional implementation.
  • Support regional teams in delivering training programs with core countries and regional institutes (preparation, delivery and evaluation).
  • Support the drafting and development of training content for remote and in-person events, as well as mass online learning courses (MOOCs) and webinars.
  • Keep up-to-date with practical operational developments and regulatory changes within core country and international policy frameworks.
  • Assist the capacity development team in aligning Global Fishing Watch work with best practices within marine ecosystem protection.
  • Monitor and contribute expert knowledge into Global Fishing Watch dataset and product development and advise on compliance training related opportunities.
  • Assist Head of Division in reviewing common biodiversity or MPA/OECM related analysis report types to create standardised approaches.
