Requirements:

• Preferably is located in the Midwest.
• Proven editing experience in a fast-paced newsroom.
• A deep understanding of the Midwest and how Axios Local's core coverage areas of politics, business, tech and culture impact the region.
• Ability to assign and manage multiple stories at once.
• Confidence working in a remote-first environment.
• Experience managing reporters at varying levels of seniority.
• A belief in Smart Brevity as the core style of Axios.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and edit the production of daily local news coverage in Axios Local's cities in the Midwest.
• Help conceive larger data-driven and analytical stories that are relevant across the Midwest with connections to national stories of importance.
• Assist with research on important topics, events, and trends driving the conversation in the Midwest.
• Write stories and newsletter items in partnership with reporters when needed.
• Manage several reporters in cities across the Midwest.
