Production Underwriter - Life Sciences

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience is required.
• Usually requires 6 to 10 years of related experience, with a preference for life science underwriting experience.
• Candidate may be in the process of or have completed certifications such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS), or Associate of Risk Management (ARM).
• Position involves frequent day and overnight travel, between 10% and 35% of the time.

Responsibilities:

• Has responsibility for risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability.
• Uses independent judgment to support business goals and maintains high customer service levels.
• Analyzes coverage requests and determines terms to offer, while pricing in accordance with guidelines.
• Assesses risk quality and compliance, and initiates loss prevention actions as needed.
• Orders and screens various reports required for underwriting processes.
• Develops business relationships with customers to attract profitable business.
• Visits agents, brokers, and producers to retain accounts and develop opportunities.
• Interprets, explains, and markets products and services effectively.
• Administers underwriting rules and may provide technical advice to lower level associates.
