Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, COC, RHIT, CCS, etc., no apprentice designation).
• 2 years outpatient surgical coding experience.
• 2 years of Ambulatory Surgical Center coding experience.
• Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent organizational skills and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

• Review operative reports to abstract information and apply CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes.
• Provide coding for all Level 2 and some Level 3 procedures and Level 1 as needed.
• Perform coding for professional fee surgical encounters and verify LCD/NCD information.
• Utilize NCCI edits and other resources, initiate physician queries, and escalate coding/documentation issues.
• Participate in ongoing coding education and perform other related duties as required.
