Requirements:
  • Must have an undergraduate degree in journalism, public policy, or a related field.
  • Completed a year or more of law school or public policy graduate school.
  • A passion for the First Amendment and protecting press freedom rights.
  • Educational background or experience in advocacy, journalism, or First Amendment law.
  • Familiarity with government secrecy, abuse of the Espionage Act, or journalists' rights.
  • Excellent writing and research skills.
  • Willingness to advocate on controversial issues and work across the political spectrum.
Responsibilities:
  • Researching issues and drafting blog posts, op-eds, newsletters, and social media campaigns.
  • Preparing resources for the Ellsberg Chair’s use in combating government secrecy.
  • Assisting in responding to press freedom emergencies through strategizing, writing, and organizing.
  • Championing legislation that supports press freedom and opposing harmful legislation.
  • Pitching articles and op-eds to the media.
  • Assisting in expanding audience influence on various platforms.
