Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ hands-on commercial underwriting experience.
- Strong understanding of underwriting principles including risk assessment and pricing.
- Ability to analyze financial and risk data.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective time management skills.
- Clear communication skills.
- Proficiency in underwriting systems and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to learn new tools quickly.
- Proactive and collaborative team player.
Responsibilities
- Prioritise and process underwriting referrals in line with service level agreements.
- Review proposal forms, financials, risk surveys, claims histories, and supporting documentation.
- Evaluate claims activity and determine its impact on renewal terms, pricing, risk appetite, and coverage suitability.
- Assess risks outside standard underwriting criteria.
- Make underwriting decisions within agreed authority levels and escalate complex cases.
- Ensure all decisions align with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Support sales and customer service teams in explaining underwriting decisions.
- Contribute to initiatives aimed at reducing exposure and improving profitability.
- Maintain accurate underwriting records and decision rationale.
