Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Ruby on Rails developer focused on API development. Strong understanding of Ruby, Rails framework, and RESTful API design principles. Experience developing and consuming APIs using REST, GraphQL, or OpenAPI specifications. Proficiency with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL. Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap). Experience using Git for version control and collaborative development. Hands-on experience with Linux environments and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure. Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments. Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes). Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed system design. Knowledge of security best practices and secure coding principles. Experience with test-driven (TDD) or behavior-driven development (BDD). Understanding of DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment practices. Experience supporting or implementing Ruby on Rails solutions within a federal agency environment. Knowledge of Department of Veterans Affairs operations, programs, or systems. Experience using modern DevOps and collaboration tools such as GitHub and cloud-based pipelines.
